Planning ahead for your child’s school year? The Department of Basic Education has shared the school calendars for 2026 and 2027. This helps parents prepare for the year ahead with all the important dates for school terms and holidays.

School Calendar 2026: Important Dates
In 2026, school will start for learners on 14 January and will end on 9 December. There will be 200 school days in total, just like 2025. The year will also have 27 school holidays and 7 public holidays, giving families plenty of time for breaks.
Here are the key dates for 2026:
- Term 1: 14 January – 27 March
- Term 2: 08 April – 26 June
- Term 3: 21 July – 02 October
- Term 4: 13 October – 09 December
School Calendar 2027: What’s New?
In 2027, school starts a bit earlier, on 13 January, and ends on 8 December. There will be 199 school days, which is one day fewer than in 2026. However, there will be 29 school holidays, giving families even more time off! This year will have 5 public holidays during the school year.
Here are the dates for 2027:
- Term 1: 13 January – 19 March
- Term 2: 06 April – 25 June
- Term 3: 20 July – 01 October
- Term 4: 11 October – 08 December
